Coronavirus vaccines are now available for children under 5.

Compared to adults, coronavirus is less severe in children, but relative to other infectious diseases that affect children, the coronavirus is severe. It is just as severe or worse than a number of diseases that children are routinely vaccinated against.

For children under 5 in particular, it is more severe than seasonal influenza and more likely to hospitalize, to require ICU care, and more likely to cause death.

And the attack rate is much higher than seasonal influenza. Generally each Flu season 10-20% of people get infected. But with the Omicron variant's transmissibility and immune evasion, attack rates for coronavirus are much higher. As a result we've seen the coronavirus kill more kids than seasonal Flu.
