Cornrow: A style that never ages.

I run a natural hair salon, in Nottingham UK we specialise in of Course natural curly hair and Hair locking, cornrow is some thing I do on a regular basis. It is said that the name comes from the likeness of corn which is planted in rows in the Caribbean it is know as canerows as again it carries the likeness of how cane is and was planted.

I often sit and think who actually came up with this form of styling the hair and who taught the first person, if only I could take a step back in time to see for my self. The only way to find the answer was to tart researching, So far I have found some really interesting information. I haven't pin pointed the tribe in Afrika as yet but I have found out who the earliest known person to date to wear this traditional and cultural style was I've got as far as to find out that this clay structure is from the ancient Nok civilisation in Nigeria, look closely you can see that he wears Canerows, this goes as far back as 500BC.
Cornrow goes so far back in time the information would be so vast that I would end up writing a book on the topic! ( I might just do so)

Ancient Egypt plays a massive role in the evolution of the Cornrow as the Great Pharaohs wore the style as a gift to the gods, in fact a lot of the images were Braids which are very different.

On my quest to find the answer i will share with you my journey. When I get more information I'll post it day by day.
