Public Domain Releases
If you have ever dealt with copyright laws you know they get convoluted and confusing pretty fast. Due to one of those weird quirks nothing has really entered the public domain since 1998, thanks to some sketchy legal maneuvering by Disney.
As of Jan 1st of this year, though, everything before 1923 will enter the public domain. That means most of the films of Chaplin, Keaton and Harold Lloyd and some written works by Robert Frost, ee cummings, Aldous Huxley, Carl Sandburg and William Carlos Williams will all be in the public domain and free for the taking.
Tens of thousands of works are included in this release. Some other works include stuff by Cecil B. DeMille, Louis Armstrong, Bela Bartok, and Agatha Christie. A lot of books will be available for download, movies will be broadcast and distributed, and music can be used royalty free for a variety of projects. Happy New Year!
That is something new, but I guess royalty free should not be there as copyright should be more promoted because the actual ideas and content of movies and books can be manipulated and used somewhere else and which do not promote originality of ideas

Interesting. I wasnt aware of that. I still do not fully understand how copyright works. I'm not sure if you heard this or not but supposedly Disney is going to be starting it's own streaming service much like Netflix. So when that happens all of Disney's work (marvel, star wars, animated movies...etc) will be leaving netflix. Soon people will need to subscribe to multiple streaming companies to watch a variety of shows and movies. On a Similar note I heard that Apple will be eliminating the ability for people to download music onto their phones and iPods and that they will only be offering subscriptions for music streaming services. Large companies are really good at finding new revenue streams.
