[Songpyeon]
Have you ever made Songpyeon? Making is also funny, but the funnies part is choosing Songpyeon wondering which filling is filled inside. Sweet sesame, tender chestnuts, savory beans. Make Songpyeon in different shape and fill with different fillings with your all family.

Ingredients

30 pieces
5 cups short grain rice powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water
1 tablespoon sesame oil

Chestnut Filling

15 chestnuts (steamed)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1 pinch salt

Sesame Filling

5 tablespoons ground sesame
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1 pinch salt

Bean Filling

1 cup black bean (steamed)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

STEP 1) Combine short grain rice powder and salt in a bowl, using a fine mesh strainer to mix. Add hot water little by little and knead enough until the dough is not break easily. Cover with a wet towel and set aside.
(Adjust the hot water amount depending on the dryness of the short grain rice powder)

STEP 2) Put steamed chestnuts in the bowl and smash them to make Chestnut Filling. Put Sesame Filling ingredients in another bowl and mix them enough.
To make Bean Filling, soak bean in the water more than 3 hrs. Put the soaked beans and other Bean Filling ingredients in the pot, simmer for 15 mins.

STEP 3) Take a piece of the dough (about 20g) and roll it into a ball, press the center of the ball to create a small cup out of it. Fill the cup with one of the fillings, seal it without any air inside. Shape a little ridge on the top.
(Cover the remaining dough with a wet towel during making to prevent to be dry).

STEP 4) For pumpkin Songpyeon, shape the dough with the ridge of the wooden stick.
(Decorate with a small pink flower made of strawberry powder)

STEP 5) For leaf Songpyeon, color the dough with mug wort powder, and shape the dough with the ridge of the wooden stick

STEP 6) Line the steamer with a wet towel and pine needles, put Songpyeon with enough space with each pieces. Close the lid and steam for 15~20 mins.

STEP 7) Rinse steamed Songpyeon under cold water and drain, put a little bit of sesame oil to coat each pieces.

STEP 8) Serve them by themselves and enjoy.
