Recipe Day: Pear Sauce
We have access to an organic Bartlett pear tree. Some years we get lovely big pears and some years, we just feed them to the pigs, they are so small. Last fall was a good year so I made quarts of pear sauce.
Peel and core ripe pears and chunk them. Place them in a stock pot big enough to stir them well. Add about ½ - ¾ cup of water depending on the size of the pot and the juiciness of the pears. I use an 8 qt stockpot and fill it ¾ full. To one that size, I add about ¼ cup vanilla extract.
Bring it to a boil and turn it down to simmer until all chunks break up. You can leave it slightly chunky or send it through the blender to make a smooth sauce. I freeze the sauce in 1½ pint containers. This size is just right for our crockpot and to cook pulled pork in it in this sauce.
This sauce goes well on French toast, pancakes, or waffles.

Yummi, that looks tasty! 😊 I love making jams and sauces from fruit, but have actually never tried pear. Yet 😄
That looks so good! I wish I liked pears. I would make that though, and feed it to the kids. Talk about a healthy treat!
