Traditional Croatian mussels with garlic and white wine
Hello steemit community, my steemit account just got approved so I would like to share my favourite seafood recipe with you all.
10kg of mussels
0,5liters of white wine
4-5 garlic cloves
2 carrots
2 onions
a bit of parsley
I decided to suprise my girlfriend over the weekend with this tasty fingerfood.
For starters, I bought 10kg of mussels from the local fisherman. The interesting part is that the fisherman dive for mussels in front of you so you can see they are fresh.
First you need to clean them and throw away any mussel that has opened. Put the mussels in the cold water and scrape off limpets, then you need to pull out that hairy bit at the bottom of the mussel.
Now you can start preparing the foundation on whitch you will cook them. Slice up 2 big onions, 4-5 garlic cloves, 2 carrots and a bit of parsley. (these are ingredients for 10kg mussels, so you can scale them based on how much mussels you have)
Mix the ingredients and put them in the pot, stew it for a couple of minutes and put in the mussles. Heat them until they open up. After they have opened up you will notice that the pot has filled with water from the mussels, pour out half of it, otherwise it would be very salty because mussels are filled with sea water. Now pour about 0,5 liters of white wine over them, stir them, put the lid on and leave them on fire for 15 more minutes.
That's it, enjoy this beautifull food with a glass of white wine and don't forget to buy lots of bread. Dipping bread in the sauce where mussles where coocked in is also delicious. Enjoy and have fun with this traditional croatian recipe that my father taught me.
