AMAZING HOUSEHOLD HELPS USING YOUR MICROWAVE!

in #cook5 years ago

Do you love your microwave? It’s very handy and convenient of course, when you want to heat things up in a hurry. However, your microwave can do lots and lots of other things too! Here’s some simple tricks you can use your microwave for, that will save you time, money and your temper!

Have you, like me, ever put a stamp on an envelope then noticed that you’ve made a mistake with either the name or the address? It’s your last stamp too! No problem! Just grab the stamped envelope and add a few drops of water directly onto the stamp. Place the envelope in the microwave and nuke it for 20 seconds. When it’s done, the stamp can be easily peeled off before being stuck onto a new, properly written, envelope.

Not much time for cooking but you’re just in the mood for a bacon snack? No worries – you’ve got your trusty microwave! Grab a plate and a bowl, turning the bowl upside down on the plate. Drape several rashers of bacon around the top of the bowl. Place the plate in your microwave and cook for one minute for each slice of bacon you’re cooking. The bacon grease will drip right down the bowl onto the plate. When you take the plate out, let the bacon cool for just a minute before having your delicious bacon sandwich.

Alright let’s talk corn. Remove the husks from some corn on the cob before wrapping it in a damp paper towel. Cook in the microwave for three minutes. Please be careful when you take it out as it’ll be hot, (best to use corn skewers or forks). The just add some butter and seasoning and enjoy!

You’ve just used your cutting board for raw meat and need to use it again straight away. We don’t want to get Salmonella over everything, but don’t have time to wait for the dishwasher and the sink is full! All you need to do is lather a little washing up liquid or soap over the board and place in the microwave for two minutes. Your perfectly sterilised cutting board is ready to use again.

You have a sweet tooth but you only have some two-day old stale doughnuts. Not a problem! Place the doughnuts onto a plate and pop them into the microwave for about twelve seconds. They’ll be nice and squishy, just as if they were fresh from the bakery!

So, your microwave is a disgusting mess and you don’t remember cooking body parts in there. How do you clean this up quickly without using stinky chemicals. That’s easy! Cut a lemon into two pieces. Half fill a bowl with water then squeeze some of the lemon juice out. Drop the cut lemons into the water and place the bowl into the microwave. Cook for four to five minutes. The water and lemon juice will boil off a bit and the citric acid will eat into any of the nasty burned-on debris When the timer is finished, you can simply wipe the microwave down to get yourself a nice clean and sanitary microwave. You can also do this with a drop of apple cider vinegar if there’s no lemons handy.

No one likes cutting onions, right! This is because an onion releases an amount of gas when it’s cut into, and it can literally bring tears to your eyes. To avoid this, if you chop the ends off the onion first, then put it into the microwave for 30 seconds, you can release most of the gas beforehand. This will allow you to chop the onion as easy as you please, with no tears.

Why is it we get the munchies when there’s no chips or crisps readily available? No problem! Take some nice-looking potatoes and slice them thinly, about 1/8 of an inch. Make some nice even layers and place them individually on a plate. Set the microwave timer to three minutes and when it finishes, flip the potato slices over. Cook them for another 3 minutes but keep an eye on them so that they don’t overcook. When they’re done you should have some surprisingly delicious potato chips. Just add some salt and enjoy!

Many of us experience back or neck pain from time to time but we don’t always have a heating pad handy. Here’s a very simple solution. Find a nice clean sock and fill it up with uncooked dry rice from your cupboard. Once it’s filled, tie off the top and put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. This will give you a nice heating pad that you can apply to any aching part of your body.

Have you got a dish sponge that’s on its last legs but you aren’t ready to throw it out yet? Your microwave can take care of this easily. Take the sponge and wet it a little. Now put a little washing up liquid on top and spread it over the sponge. Put it in the microwave and turn it on for about a minute to kill off any bacteria. When it come out your sponge will be nice and clean and as good as new.

See you next time!
