How to Recognize and Treat Conversion Disorder

in #conversationlast month

The word "conversion" literally means "turning," and it is the primary diagnosis for the sickness known as conversion disorder.

When referring to the manifestation of the impacts of psychologically related issues in the body, this phrase is used to indicate the physical manifestation of those effects. In reality, conversion is more commonly referred to be a form of defence mechanism.

Defence mechanisms can also be defined as systems that protect us from the annoying consequences of crises that arise within our souls. This is another way of defining defence mechanisms. The ego is responsible for the functioning of defence systems.

As a result of the fact that defence mechanisms are an unconscious process, even if the body creates a defence mechanism and uses it, we are not aware that this is taking place. From a different point of view, it is possible that this protection does not always produce positive consequences.

On the other hand, these unfavourable outcomes are chosen since they are less detrimental than the true spiritual conflicts that occur.

The individual may be unable to regulate a group of neurological symptoms that include fainting, loss of feeling, or paralysis when they have conversion disorder. This is despite the fact that there is typically no recognised or underlying physical cause connected to conversion disorder.

There is a category of psychiatric disorder known as conversion disorder. When people go to the doctor, the most common complaint they have is that they are fainting. A person who faints is not remembered, and it typically happens when they are in the company of other people.

In the event that the individual comes to, this may entail crying or engaging in dangerous behaviours. In addition to these symptoms, conversion disorder can also manifest itself with other symptoms.

Numbness in certain parts of the body, such as the arms and legs, weakness, numbness, tremors, shaking, temporary loss of voice, and blindness are some examples of these symptoms.

The individual is either engaged in some form of confrontation with other people or is in another circumstance that will lead them to experience stress whenever they are in an atmosphere that is conducive to the manifestation of such bodily symptoms.

According to the opinions of other individuals, the individual who is experiencing this issue is exhibiting responses that are implausible and appear to be acting. Nevertheless, the individual is not acting in any way that is intentional and is also experiencing fear.

The reaction of the defence mechanism that takes place as a result of psychological conflicts and stressful conditions of which the individual has a great deal of difficulty coping is the root cause of conversion disorder.

It is inevitable that these vexing psychological challenges will eventually reveal themselves in the form of physical reactions. Conversion disorder really confers two significant advantages on the one who suffers from it.

In the same way as there are certain elements that contribute to the persistence of the problem in conversion disorder, there are also certain factors that contribute to other psychological difficulties.

Primary and secondary gains are the terms used to describe this. These improvements result in the physical reaction being rewarded and performed over and over again.
