Charley's Stupid Suggestion No. 2

in #conversation8 years ago

This is the second in what I hope will be a list of conversation-starting suggestions. I'm interested in what people might say about topics that I am interested in.

This suggestion applies to whatever collection of persons in the U.S. creates the Federal laws.

In the 1950s or early 1960s this group of persons made it possible for proceeds from the federal gasoline tax to be used to fund mass transit instead of road maintainance.

My suggestion, given the sad state of our infrastructure and inability to pay to recondition the roads, bridges and tunnels, is to repeal the first law and then pass a law to use the gas tax ONLY for roads, bridges and tunnels; NOT mass transit.

A second similar suggestion is to use the tax on aviation fuels only to maintain airports.
