It's always worth a try. I made 19 entries to the logo contest, though I'd never made a logo before. They were not very techy in design or really of the feel that best suited the ICON, but I had such fun in the process and gave me a great opportunity to express myself. I believe I added some mojo to the contest too--I feel a valuable contribution.
Would love to see what you come up with @uysaymon.
