RE: Steemit Writing Contests: Issue #40 March 6, 2018
Many thanks, @moneyinfant, for sharing my experience with shadowbot. It was unpleasant, and they’re shady, but I don’t think they are “actually a social engineered phishing scheme”. But, what do I know? Steer clear, dear readers, is all I’ll say...
Thank you, as always, for these valuable leads. ✌🏼
Hopefully it will save some others from falling into an unpleasant experience.
Social engineering (noun): the use of deception to manipulate individuals into divulging confidential or personal information that may be used for fraudulent purposes.
And from Wikipedia: Phishing is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and money), often for malicious reasons, by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
