in #contest6 years ago (edited)

Rules are as followed:

1 - Guess the DAY and TIME + TIMEZONE the space station will crash down to earth. Make sure an add AM or PM or else I'll assume it's military time so 6:00 will be considered 6am not 6pm. If you don't specify the time zone either it will be counted as UTC time.

2 - One vote per account. Vote in the comments section.

3 - Followers only. Just follow me before you vote :)

4 - Closest to the date and time the space station crashes wins the prize.

Prize:

Winner receives 5 SBD. Paid approximately 24hrs after the contest closes.

Good luck everyone!

Here's an article on saying the when it might fall back to earth. They are estimating late April 1st or early April 2nd.

Chinese Space Station Could Crash to Earth Late Sunday or Early Monday

Quiet solar activity has once again pushed back the re-entry time for a China's falling space station, Tiangong-1, according to the European Space Agency (ESA) and U.S.-based analysis group Aerospace Corp.

The doomed Tiangong-1 is now expected to fall to Earth around 7:25 p.m. EDT (2325 GMT) on Sunday (April 1), with a window that could stretch into early Monday, officials with ESA's Space Debris Office said in an update this morning (March 31). As of 5 p.m. EDT today, Aerospace Corp., which is also tracking Tiangong-1, predicts Tiangong-1 will crash at 7:53 p.m. EDT (2353 GMT) Sunday, give or take 7 hours.

I've been checking out the tracking of this thing the last few days and it's still at 170-180km above the Earth and seems to be losing only 10-20 km per day. So personally I think it's going to crash after April 2nd but don't take my word on it i'm no expert.

Congrats on winning. You were pretty damn close, 34mins off. 5 SBD will be coming to you tomorrow.

China's prototype space station, whose name translates as "Heavenly Palace 1," met a fiery end in Earth's atmosphere today (April 1), breaking apart and burning up in the skies over the southern Pacific Ocean at about 8:16 p.m. EDT (0016 April 2 GMT), according to the U.S. Strategic Command's Joint Force Space Component Command (JFSCC).

Yaaaay!!!! First time I am grateful that the Chinese build crappy stuff! hehe

NOTE TO EVERYONE: Voting will end April 1st 4pm EST(a couple of hours before the earliest projected crash). I can't have people watching the tracking and waiting until the very end to cast a vote.
