A few years ago we went on a family outing to Merida, a city in the Venezuelan Andes. The group was distributed in three cars. We all started at the same time, but always at each stop to stretch our legs, two of the cars arrived with just 5 minutes of difference. The third, led by my older brother, always arrived with an hour or two of delay.

The family group was making their first visit to Merida, so it was not strange that we miscalculated the route to visit the tourist sites of the city. But my older brother seemed to get lost every time.

My other brothers plotted each itinerary before each ride. Everyone seemed to agree, but my oldest always came late. It happened during the 7 days we were there.

Back to our homes and in view of what was happening, we decided that we would follow him. The traffic made us lose sight of him. After 5 hours, we were alarmed, because he was not at the first stop as we agreed. We were afraid that an accident had happened.

Finally they appeared!

My sister-in-law got off the car furiously. My brother always insisted on using a GPS that he had just bought, but he did not want to say anything so we would not make fun of him.

We baptized him as "GPS". It's been 10 years and it still makes us laugh like the first day. He gets very angry when we remind him of the anecdote.

Hace unos años fuimos en paseo familiar a Mérida, una ciudad en los andes venezolanos. El grupo iba distribuido en tres carros. Todos partíamos a la vez, pero siempre en cada parada para estirar las piernas, llegaban dos de los carros con apenas 5 minutos de diferencia. El tercero, conducido por mi hermano mayor, siempre llegaba con una hora o dos de retraso.

El grupo familiar estaba haciendo su primera visita a Mérida, así que no era extraño que equivocáramos la ruta para visitar los sitios turísticos de la ciudad. Pero mi hermano mayor parecía perderse en todas las ocasiones.

Mis otros hermanos trazaban cada itinerario antes de cada paseo. Todos parecían de acuerdo, pero mi hermano mayor siempre llegaba retrasado. Ocurrió durante los 7 días que estuvimos allí.

De vuelta a nuestros hogares y, en vista de lo que estaba ocurriendo, decidimos que lo seguiríamos a él. El tráfico nos hizo perderle de vista. Luego de 5 horas, estábamos alarmados, porque él no estaba en la primera parada como se acordó. Temíamos que hubiera ocurrido un accidente.

¡Finalmente ellos aparecieron!

Mi cuñada se bajó furiosa del carro. Mi hermano todas las veces se empeñó en utilizar un GPS que recién había comprado, pero él no quiso decir nada para que no nos burláramos.

Lo bautizamos como "GPS". Han pasado 10 años y todavía nos hace reír como el primer día. Él se enoja muchísimo cuando le recordamos la anécdota.
