Responsibilities: A Cue From The Chess Game

Hello Steemians! Its about time for another @steemit-virus contest that reward creative writers.The contest is one I always look forward to because it will push you beyond your limit to come up with something unique and in the process your creativity come to play.

Today, I shall be interpreting the image below. I hope you find my interpretation interesting!

Looking at the image, the chess board game easily pops up in my brain. Chess is actually more than a game. I still think a genius designed the game. The game is about a kingdom and it test how intelligent you are and how you can think fast in tight situation. We know that in every kingdom, especially, the ancient era that is dominated by kingship, the king, queen, prince and princess are very important. The continuity of every kingdom lies on the shoulder on the king and this is determined by the power of his soldiers – the knights.

From the image above, I see responsibilities. Every society comprises of different people with different tasks or responsibilities. The lowest or vulnerable set of people in the society are the masses, the people or the commoners to use Plato’s word.

These people are open to many threats but the pool of the society rest on their shoulders. They are responsible for the productions, they hold their king in high esteem. Just like the chess game, these people are often moved first. They have limited mobility but they can protect the queen especially when the soldiers – knights are already dead. You see them first in a chess board and they are called pawns.

We know every community needs religious leaders to help steer the ship of the community. They pray for the king, queen, the soldiers and the people. They are regarded as spiritual leaders and connect us easily with the Supreme Being. The spiritual leaders as we have them in the kingdoms are regarded as bishops in the chess game. In this context, the bishops can be pastors or alfas. The major thing is that the spiritual leaders also have responsibilities and roles to play to further ensure the continuity of every state and to make sure that right preaching and God's words are preached to the leaders.

The strength or weakness of every given society is determined by their knights. Knights are soldiers and their main task is to protect the king and by virtue of that they protect the kingdom at large. The responsibility of the knights is to make sure every internal and external force is thwarted. In the chess game, the knight can stay at one place and will be having effect on four different other pieces. That shows that the knights can defend themselves from four people at the same time. The well planned movements of the knights determine how vulnerable the opponent can be. 

We know about castles. There are castles in every kingdom. These castles are built to exact superiority or show the mightiness of the kingdom. In a chess game, the castle moves vertical and horizontal. The idea is, whenever the castle is destroyed (killed by opponent), the king is prone to attack. So the castle is always there to protect the king and players don’t move them on time because they know they will make their king prone to attack. So the castle serves as defensive wall for the king. The proper word for castle in the chess game is rook.

The queen, like we know in every kingdom is very powerful. A queen can carry out the same task as a king should in case the king is sick. Even when the king is healthy, the power of the queen cannot be overemphasized. In a chess game, she is very powerful and can make all moves you can think of. Once the queen leaves her space in a chess game, you know danger is looming. Immediately, all your calculation is how to trap her and make sure she does not return back home. A queen comes out with determination to kill the opponent king. If she succeed, then the other kingdom is destroyed. So she has great responsibilities to protect the king, the kingdom, pawns, knights and the castle.

The king is the most important figure in any kingdom. The continuity of any kingdom is determined by the safety of the king. So the pawns – commoners, knights- soldiers, bishops – pastors and alfas, rooks – castles, and queen work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the king. The king himself has huge task on him. The king must ensure the knights are properly fed and trained. He must be very strategic and intelligent enough to make sure the kingdom continues. 

The chess game is built around the analogy above. It is more than a game. It shows that we all have responsibilities as human beings. We have a collective duty to protect our kingdom because by so doing we are protecting our families. A secured and well protected state ensures the continuity of those living in it. So we all have responsibilities as human beings and we must make sure we fulfill them because our existence depend on how swift we can carry them out effectively.
