Domestic Violence On Women - Steemit Virus Contest

Hello friends! Today i shall be discussing with you another topic to enter for the Steemit Virus Contest. This is another picture interpretation but it is different. Different because the title suggest it is something that deals with human inhuman acts to fellow human.

I live in Nigeria, Africa where we had a patriarchal social system. Patriarchal system is one where the man or men dominate and have rightful say in any decision making. This system has eaten deep into many Africans that today, even younger generations still exhibit it not because they were born during that era but because of what they see their 'fathers', 'uncles', 'brothers', do to the the female folks. So they feel it is the right way to go.

These people with the Patriarch tendencies often reference religion where the man is made the head of the family but forget easily where the man was told that he needed an helper not a maid.

The picture above tells me one thing and that is a victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence is unfortunately on the rampage these days. Women are now unfortunately seen as tools or mere products to be used by some men with serious ego who are actually cowards. 

I see a woman who was abused and left in pain. A woman full of bitterness with nothing to do.

Domestic violence is the unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration with or without force, by a sex organ, other body part, or foreign object, without the consent of the victim. source 

In the proper sense of the words, domestic violence involves rape in marriage. If you paid her bride price and you are legally married, once you ask her for it and she says she is not in the mood but you go ahead to have it with her, you have committed a crime against her.

Women are not objects that men should use and dump anytime they feel like. Even the parent are not helpful most time. You hear them say: You have to stay there, 'fi ori ti - endure', 'we cannot have to wives in my husband house'. So the woman has to endure this act of inhuman violence just because her parent feel she should face whatever comes from marriage.

Here we see marriage as 'sacred' such that once you enter it, you remain there for life. So the parent have this remorse to accept their daughters back because of what the society might say and in the end encourage this act on women.

As a man, i have this belief that any man who beats his wife is a 'beast'. It is cowardice to beat a woman. I know some women know how to talk but it is not a justification to beat any woman. My simple question is: How many times have you slapped your female boss for insulting you? I guess you cannot try it? But because you have a woman at home as a wife you think you have right over her.

I also think the idea 'right' in marriage' needs to be explained. What does the man mean when he says: sleeping with you is my right? Cooking for me is my right - something she must do? Taking care of the home is my right - something only she must do? The word is vague and needs further explanation because i see the word to mean: slavery! So the man is saying you are my slave and must do these things for me. So the woman is left helpless.

I wonder if men know the trauma, psychological effect, physical and emotional pains these women go through with their act? Relationship starts with friendship sometimes and it is mostly built on love so what happen to the love? 

If you are tired of the woman, it is better to seek legal way to quit than pouring out your anger on woman. Something many of them cannot do with their fellow man.

The abuse on women must stop and there is a need for reorientation of the men. They need to let go of their ego and feelings of being superior over their wives. women are helpers and companions not slaves.

Say no to abuse of any kind on women. They should be loved just like we need their love too.
