The Theme for this week is “change”, and the object of the contest is to write an inspiring piece of writing using only 1111 characters. When I first thought of change I thought of Spring, and all the changes that the season can bring. I hope you like it.

One morning bright before the night’s final dew,
The Derr family aroused to find something fresh and new.
“The change” Mr. Derr said grumpy and wrinkled his nose,
Watching the trees give bud; feeling the south wind grow.
“They call it Spring” Mrs. Derr said, singing a tune.
“The days will be longer and the sun hot in the noon.”
The little Derrs fumbled and wiped at their eyes.
"Father, if the change is upon us, will we get the surprise?"
Mr. Derr waited to answer and said with a sigh,
“There is no telling what type of change this year will come by,
For they say nothing about change can be said, but the new.
You may see the sun growing, or snow may come back through.”
“I hope for flowers.” Mrs Derr said and then smiled.
“There’s always a chance that the Spring will be mild.
The fruit will start growing, and the bees will come out.”
Mr. Derr asked for silence with a grunt of his snout.
“Your Mother is positive this change will be subtle.
But it may be another month before we leave this little huddle.”
For what we expect may or may not be due or come true.
We will not know our fate until our fate has played through.
