LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE CONTEST WEEK #005
The Claws of Malpelo
The Island of Malpelo is located 400 km west of Colombia in the Pacific Ocean. The island and surrounding waters are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its know not only as a "shark heaven," but as well as a sea bird nesting ground.
The island is uninhabited expect for a small military base run by the Columbian government use to protect the area and its inhabitants both above and below the surface.
Getting here was one hell of an adventure. I spent thirteen day aboard a large catamaran diving and photographing the area.
