Information Finding Championship - Season 1 : Round 19 entry

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

This post is part of a contest for the Information Finding Championship. The challenge is to teach us something new, cool, unique, useful or interesting. I'm going to aim at useful.

We all have reusable water bottles. We use them when we go jogging, hiking or cycling. Bottles like that can be used when you go to a gym or when you go on a camping trip. The point is that we do not use such bottles every day. They get washed and then stored in a cupboard somewhere until we need them again. Then, when we want to use such a bottle again it smells a little dank. Do we need to wash it again? Or just rinse it? This is what I want to teach you!

How to freshen up clean but dank water bottles.

Easy!

Take a small bit of toothpaste, the size of the tip of your pinky, and dissolve it in the bottle by filling one-quarter of the bottle with water. Shake vigorously. Rinse all the toothpaste out.

The fluoride will kill most of the bacteria that cause the smell. But remember fluoride is not good for you. Rinse well!

Your bottle will be fresh. More importantly, your water will taste fresh.

Enjoy your exercise. And stay hydrated!

Hey. Thanks for the entry! That's a pretty good idea! I never thought of doing that before. However you may want to put a lil disclaimer there in regards to people who use fluoride toothpaste to make sure they wash it out really good as fluoride is essentially poison and you're not suppose to swallow it.

Done! Thank you @apolymask.

I didn't know that, that is handy, now....how do I clean my stainless steel cup that is stained by my coffee....and if it is stainless steel, why did it stain?...is the a coffee holder anywhere that does not stain? Is there anything out there that coffee will not stain, and if coffee stains everything....will eventually eat away even stainless steel?

You seemed like the right person to ask these unanswerable questions to, since you are smart enough to know how to freshen-up a stored water bottle.

Oi @bashadow. This is our first conversation and you have already caught me out! I guess I am not as wisdomous (Joey from sitcom Friends' word) as I thought I was...

Maybe it is not real stainless steel?

This is great information for us. yes my bottle will be fresh & more importantly, my water will taste fresh. thanks for give us your great idea.

Ha! Life hacks 101 ... This is just great. Finally a solution to washing the bottles, everytime i needed them :P

Glad you liked it!

Thank you this great lesson we have learnt from you.

Thanks, @reonlouw, as a person that is in training, this was useful. I sometimes forget to rinse out my protein powder and it is the worst smell to have lingering in a water bottle. 😷
10/10 would not recommend.

Thank you @mr-bike. Enjoy the training.
