Once there was a time when the ants used to be lazy, they relaxed and enjoyed themselves during the summer as much as they liked even stealing food from other insects with the power of their sting. Even when there was a prophecy that the coming winter would be dreadful, they felt that it was just a ploy to get them to work. Thus they continued to laze about doing things without thought of the morrow. When winter actually came around with a feisty atmosphere, they understood the prophecy and many of them were caught off guard. As they had not strengthened their niches well enough, it caved in and killed most of them. The survivals sought help from other insects but no one was willing to help them because they had bullied them during the summer. The ants learnt a valuable lesson that winter, trimming all their desires from pleasure and always focusing on the work at hand. Their determined effort brought them a new name - the most industrious of all insects. The lessons learnt continues to be their mantra until this day which is “a stitch in time saves nine”.
