💰 WIN 10 STEEM - LOAD SHEDDING CONTEST 💰
WHAT EES UP SOUF EFFRIKANS? I'm sure most of you have heard of the nation wide power outages we are having here in SA. I'm not going to go into too much detail on the actual load shedding situation, if you are South African, you will know what I am speaking about, as I might blow a gasket; and if you're not - read my @morkrock's post which really goes into detail about the whole shebang.
South Africans who write on Steemit often will have noticed that they tone down their slang for the foreign readers to understand better, but I won't be doing that for this particular post, so excuse me if you don't understand. 💜
ANYWAY - I thought since this whole situation is quite stressful and tedious, that it would be fun to make a little contest and give some Steem away to make light of a bad situation. See what I did there?? Bad joke, lol.
I was actually inspired to write this by @fionasfavourites (she probably has no idea), but when I asked about her load shedding tips for cooking, she gave some thoughtful comments, and I thought, hey!
write a post of your own telling either of a funny/scary/just plain kak experience you have endured because of load shedding
OR write a post with your top tips for how to survive loadshedding
OR write a post with your thoughts on the load shedding issue
- upvote and resteem this post
- you must use the tags #loadsheddingiskak and #contest
- please tag/nominate as many South Africans as you can in your post to get the word out
- I will give 10 Steem to the post I deem to be the best story or experience. If the post earns over $20 I will also split the liquid rewards with you
SPREAD THE WORD: @jaynie @fionasfavourites @freetissues @lizelle @joanstewart @morkrock @therneau @shadowolfdg @chekohler @breezin @kiligirl @campx4 @tim-beck @vanessak @cerise @woe-is-meme @alishi @sweetpea @cape-town @johanvdwalt @p1eter @dewallenband @dse @bigbear @dianadee @braaiboy @teamsouthafrica
Ouch... no load shedding over here, so no funny stories... but oh my gosh... reading Afrikaans or South African slang... or whatever the hell you were writing! It's like this crazy mix of Dutch and English...
Haha you are right, that’s exactly what Afrikaans is, ”kombuistaal” or kitchen language - which is where it started - in the kitchen with the cape Malay servants back in the beginning of our country’s time. It’s a beautiful, expressive language with a powerful and pridefilled history x

For some unknown reason (be it dumb luck or Eskom's incompetence in figuring out their own grid), my area doesn't get affected by load shedding. I know, I know... please don't hate me.
I do have a story or two about "general" 12 hour+ substation fails etc. however, and after I get through this weekend's events will share those with you.
However, I know that @TheArneD has a funny story about a chat to her Canadian friend thinking it's "good for the environment", @CraigCryptoKing is legit going off-grid 'for the environment'... but load-shedding was probably that final shove he needed, @BaasDeBeer has had more than the odd event cancelled and I'm sure every other Saffa (most of whom you've already tagged) has a story to tell as well.
Hehe we are on the same grid as parliament, a hospital, and Helen Zille’s house, so we also never have loadshedding, but at work we have it often, and it is HORRIBLE.
I’d love to live off grid and free range and really say, jou ma se push to eishkom, but until then, we make the best of it

Some really great articles up @princessmewmew, thoroughly enjoyed reading each authors insights and reviews @chekohler @lizelle @fionasfavouries @chireerocks - where are all the SAffer's, we like to unload normally @teamsouthafrica #teamsouthafrica
Previous content a couple of months ago, at the time I delved through many things contributing to this problem under comments to @morkrock https://steemit.com/southafrica/@morkrock/what-is-load-shedding
Thanks Joan! I must say I am enjoying all of the articles, it’s going to be difficult to choose a winner. I did see your comment on @morkrock’s post, very in-depth, and exactly what is happening.

LOL sounds like good fun! @mimismartypants @penderis don’t be skaam!
Might as well have fun with it while we can before Stage 8 load shedding kicks! I always thought that it was Eskom staff breaking into cars and stealing batteries but now I’m I’m not so sure anymore

Conjuring up new stages last week and this week no load shedding, me thinks it stinks!
How to make money by switching off dem lights or sumthing....
Yeah they’re a bunch of thieving bastards, and everyone knows it.
I read an article recently on how they are planning to run eskom into the ground so that they can sell it and buy it cheap again. It’s all about the randelas while the poor get poorer and struggle to feed their families. Bastards!

My load shedding philosophy is to do this safely without damage to the grid, plants or humans in a controlled manner. It is unfortunate for those who no longer have access to grid power. Hopefully, emergency facilities have backups.
Making your house energy efficient is obvious, so is eventually getting back up power because it will be a long time before the grid capacity is up to scale.
In the meantime, get some batteries and small solar for your essentials DC electronics like house alarms, CCTV, radio and phones. Sit back and enjoy Braai time.
While that may work if you have your own home, what about the thousands that rent or so not have the funds to buy solar equipment etc? I worry about the poor in this situation as they are going to suffer the most.
Good tips though, and if we could only become self sufficient and not need eskom, they would not hold all the power

Its great you have the power to make Light of the situation
What a cool contest and the responses should be fun
Hehe, what more can we do? I was freaking out the other day about the end of the world, or at least South Africa coming, and my relative said “you can’t die, if you’re already dead” and I just LOLED, because we have to have a sense of humor with this situation. And you can’t die if you’re dead, 😂😂😂
