The Kuarez Ruins | A 150-Word Flash Fiction | Contest Entry
The Kuarez Ruins
We are on our way to the ruins on the Kuarez mountains. Twenty of us left our families behind, unsure if we will return, and if we do, that we would have been successful.
A demonic beast used to roam in these lands, eradicating anyone who trespassed. A few weeks ago, it wandered to a neighbouring village, obliterating it from existence. This unruly hunt infuriated our gods, so much that one of them, Faex, came down to crush it with his bare hands. Nobody is certain what occurred, but after a high-pitched squeal from the beast, our village fell to a frozen spell.
One of our own vanished when an icy fog appeared out of nowhere – evil still lurks. Terrified, our pace slows down. There is no turning back. We must destroy the source of this evil curse before it turns everyone we know into blocks of ice.
This was my first flash writing ever! I have never posted any short story or flash writing before. With that said, I gave this piece 125.68% of my effort. Yes, how precise. Having said that, feel free to tear it apart, give feedback - I encourage this! Thank you for @aschatria for organising this and having influenced me enough to have me write (even though it's not poetry). Be sure to follow the Die Hard Steemit and Isle of Write Discord channels down below!
excellent, I like how you unfreeze your imagination
Thank you. I appreciate the pun (unfreeze) haha!
;)
Good work. Not easy to tell a story in 150 words, and have it feel like it can stand alone as a piece of work. But you did.
Yes, 150 is quite short. Thankfully, my poetry is generally shorter than that, so I am accustomed to saying a lot in a smaller amount of words. Now, the opposite would be way more difficult! Thank you for the comment <3
If that's your first shot at flash fiction don't stop. Great first effort, especially given the constraints of 150 words. Good luck with the contest!
thank you!! As a poet, I am used to keeping the word count low. It's the advantage I had :)
Good luck to you too! I have 0.684% chance of winning, but I do appreciate the encouragement and the experience
