Giving is Much More Than Giving Away Things, It is Giving Away Your Time.

Hello friends of steemit, today I would like to talk to you a little about me, I have been working for 10 years administering a Dialysis Unit, where patients with Chronic Renal Insufficiency are treated, caused by high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus. There are other causes, but in smaller proportion, such as congenital and those caused by degenerative or autoimmune diseases such as lupus, cancer, among others.

My work team, nurses and doctors. Every year in the month of December we give 2 Sundays of the month, to make dialysis to patients. That Sunday not only patients are dialyzed, but what we call in my country a "sharing" is organized, which is that each of the staff members who work in the clinic, carries a tray of food, to share with the patients and relatives of patients.

We all sit at a large table and give thanks for the food. At this time for us and for the patients, we are grateful to close another year of work, health and to continue fighting so that things improve.

Despite all the difficulties, we have been able to help patients with programs that can have a better quality of life, with a multidisciplinary team of doctors, psychologists, nutritionists and social workers, who support the patient at every step of their illness. There are still many things to do, but we are taking small steps to achieve the goal.

For those of us who work in the clinic, it is important to improve the quality of life of our patients, our best gift to them is to give them our time and love. They are patients in conditions some of them very poor and without families that can help or care for them.

Most of the patients we serve are older, but we also have young people, and giving them our time to listen to them, making them feel that they have a home in our clinic is our priority.

Many of them arrive, fearful and frightened because of a disease they do not understand, and our work in making them feel safe and giving them hope that they can lead a normal life in spite of everything.

Hope is the key word, since that word opens the doors of your heart and believe that you can improve. Although it is a disease that has no cure, you can live long years with it, if you take care of yourself. It is there where each one of us, those who work in the clinic, help our patients feel that they have a new home and family.

Most people think that "giving" is giving away things or money, but I think that although money helps to solve many things and buy food, clothes, among other things. Devoting time to people to help them, to listen to them, to laugh with them is equal or more important than giving money.

Listening to older people, to children, can often make them change their mood from being irritable or sad, to feeling valued and loved. So let's reflect and give away not only money or things, give our time to listen to someone or give a hug, you will be surprised as something as simple as that for those people makes a big difference.

For this reason I invite you to give a little of your time, to those people who are close to you, your neighbors or those who consider you need it. You will see that to give a little of your time you will also be given the opportunity to meet new people and they will be able to learn by listening to new things.
