What is the Creativity Contest all about?

In short: It is simply about generating a valuable entry based on the word associated with each round.
The entry/comment with the most upvotes wins.

In depth: The idea is to stimulate and engage steemians in creative work through rewards and competition. My assumption is that larger the reward gets the more challenging it becomes to win which will lead to a greater level of competition therefore higher quality of work being submitted.

The Creativity Contest could possibly:

  • Encourage differentiation
  • Push steemians to avoid complacency
  • Help Forming unexpected partnerships, as the competition allows people to cooperate and work on an entry/comment.
  • Provide a nest for mutual learning, as steemians will have the chance to learn and get inspired by the many ways of approaching self-expression.
  • Lead to highly Imaginative work, as competition gets rougher.

How to enter the contest?

Let's say Mr. Herbert Hoover wants to enter Round #37 and the word associated with it is "Competition"

All he has to do is represent the meaning of the word in an original entry/comment (100% his work and creation)

  • He can write a definition of the word (no plagiarism)
  • He can post a video in which you discuss the meaning of the word
  • Any Art form that could symbolize and represent the word (humor, painting, drawing, music..)
  • He can write a short story
  • He can discuss the origin of the word
  • Discuss its meaning philosophically
  • Literally anything goes as long as it is his original work

Mr. Hoover decided to share what he thinks about "Competition" in a short sentence
and before entering his post he made sure to use this format:

How to qualify for rewards?

  • Your entry has to be the fruit of your original work.
  • No plagiarism
  • Use only videos, photos, drawings, sounds, short stories, definitions of your own creation
  • Upvote and resteem the round you are entering.
  • Upvote your favorite entry on the round (other than yours)
    Note: Self-votes do not count.

General Info:

  • Each Edition will contain 50 rounds
  • The winner of each round will get all the SBD that the post generated.
  • The steemian with the most wins after 50 rounds will be crowned Edition Champion and get the SBD of his highest winning entry doubled.
  • SBD rewards will be distributed after each round which lasts a week long.
  • I will upvote 3 of my favorite entries per round.
  • The entry with the most upvotes wins.

Contest entry:

Selfishness.
A selfish person is the one that primary thinks about ones self. There are two types of selfish, the ones that hurt others by actions and the others who are selfish in healthy quantities.
The first ones, the ones that give ''selfish'' a bad meaning are the ones who will eat the last piece of cake in front of a starving child, the ones that will drink all water from the flask in a desert, when there are 10 more people that are supposed to share it. The bad selfish is a person that hurts their loved ones just because they don't matter as much as this one person, that will demand to be taken care of in a hospital first, with a mild bruise, even though there is somebody bleeding out in front of them, those are self centered people who only see themselves in the world.
But, there is one but, there is also a good selfish, and we should all be a little bit selfish, because we must think of ourselves, too. Being completely selfless would mean not taking care of ones self and when you don't care about yourself, nobody else can help you, you have to be able to take care of yourself, only then you will be able to help others continuously.

Hope it is not too long, best wishes to everybody here:)

Contest Winner @lindahas

Contest Entry

Selfishness

Blinds the eyes of its bearers.
Dumbs their ears to the cry of the needy.
Wilts their hands, that they cannot lift others up.
Clogs their noses to their own stink,
and dries the tongue so that it swells and is refrained from speaking wisdom.

Treat it, each in his own person,
As a malformation of the heart,
And dose daily with the elixir of charity,
Swallow your own pride,
And place your fellow creature on the pedestal that you would stand on.

Thank you for this contest and the chance to wax wise, tho I be a stubborn fool.

Don't forget the "# Contest entry:" tag, I guess
:)

Got it! Thanks

I really dig the idea.
Some "questions":

  • By "entry" you mean a blog post or a comment here? In the first case, do we still link from here?
  • What are the time frames? One week, right? But how do you keep track of when the voting starts? First post has more chance of more votes? And then you have a self-reenforcing factor of posts with more votes being displayed up higher by the steemit posting system.
  • I don't think it makes sense to compare steemians with different amount of followers on a vote basis. They can call their following to action.
  • An entry = comment here (glad you pointed that out)
  • 7 Days (6 Days and 22hrs remain on this one since it was posted around two hours ago). The voting starts right away.
  • I would love to hear some suggestions on how to decide on winners.

The idea behind resteeming the post multiple times is to get as much exposure as possible which will allow contenders to get close to equal views on their entries and potentially a larger reward.

Your suggestions are valuable so please feel free to make any addition you deem appropriate.

Thanks for your input @qed.

I am pleased to hear that you support it, I hope many others will find value in it as well. An entry is basically a comment here whether it is a video, photo, string of words etc..

  • Voters would preferably wait until the last few days/hours before voting, so that they make the best choice possible. (but we can only recommend this method)

I'll post my lengthy entry as a blog and link to you. Maybe a second order voting strategy would be to vote for a jury? This may overcomplicate things, though.
