How well do you know the most common trees growing in North East USA and Eastern Canada?

Read through the text below and pick the correct tree. The included photo may give you a good clue as well.

This tree is the tallest eastern hardwood, reaching up to 150 feet or more and a diameter measuring up to four feet. Water can rise from its roots to its top in less than an hour. It is a very valuable timber tree, as its wood stays strong while still able to grow rapidly. The tree has beautiful tulip-like flowers, which produce such a large amount of nectar it makes it the friend of the beekeeper. This tree is distinguished by an inverted "U" where branches emerge from the trunk. Its bark resembles alligator hide, while this tree stands out in the fall with various hues of yellow, orange, bright red and purple.
