Detailed Play Instructions for IBT#4

Play Instructions ·

  • Enrol – post a reply in the enrolment post with your character name, picture and class: Warrior, Wizard or Archer
  • Play – as each battle post (Stages) 1 through to 6  is posted, read the rules on each post and make your attack  for a  chance to win. You will win a equal share of the battle post payout if you defeat the foe/enemy in your first attack. There will be a campaign map to travel and players will  be progressing until you reach the boss round.

  • Attack - to win you must hit for equivalent or more then the foe's hit points. Each character class must stick to your own unique attack type, either a basic or mighty attack for your class. A full list of Bot attack commands, per class are available here

  • Gobbo! - should you mess up a basic attack, the bot may initiate a Gobbo challenge; if this happens you must do a Mighty attack against Gobbo instead of defeating the Stage Foe. If you win, you may run the pickpocket command and will win an item. Note: this does not count as the first attempt at beating this stages foe/enemy, so on your next attack you may still be eligible to win Steem. To win you simply need to do an attack equivalent of Gobbo's hit or above. If you do pickpocket Gobbo you may also pickpocket the foe (it's the only way to gain more then one item in a Stage without purchasing from the item shop with trophy's - see more about item shops below).
  • Collect Items – during each battle post you may attempt to pick the pocket of the foe only once. If you receive an item, it's effect remains active until you complete the Stage you received it.
  • Revive and more Items (optional) – you start each round with 3 life points.  You must have at least 1 life point to continue to play and battle.  You should try to self manage your attacks and life points. Should you use all 3 life points and wish to win the battle post (just for fun), simply visit the item post shop and purchase another life point. Note: You do not need to complete a battle post to continue and play in the next stage. There are other items available for purchase, you can play a purchased item once in any stage of your choosing (then the item is consumed at the end of the Stage).
  • Boss Round - The boss round in IBT competitions, is different each time.-During this IBT#4 boss round, you will need to turn on each other, you may attack any other player no more then once per player (only during the boss round), but only once! by posting a reply "I wish to attack @player" then immediately reply again to this reply,  with the attack bot command for your character class. They must see your challenge, accept and counter attack to be a valid battle, who ever has the highest score wins. Whom ever has the largest number of draws and wins by the end of the boss round will be crowned champion(s) and win the grand prize. Items and environmental effects will not be used in the boss round (the only exception is if you win an item from a Gobbo challenge - this item counts and may stack)...this should make it interesting :)

Tournament Shop post

  • The ITEM SHOP (post) will open soon. For this  tournament it's likely there will be very few items in stock for players  to purchase, but check back often. When/if items are available they can  be purchased using the in game currency – trophy tokens.   This is not a pay to win game.
  • The items will only  offer a small bonus over other players. It is possible to win trophy  tokens through out the competition, from other competitions or they can  be purchased directly from @trophy-token, for a minimal Steem shipping fee – this is between you and trophy-token :)

I invite you to post questions about the tournament here anytime :)

I will check back often and try to respond.  IBT#4 is still experimental so some elements may not work and need  tweaking. If this upsets you, I suggest you do not participate as I (or @doughtaker our field judge) will be  needing to make some decisions at times to ensure the smooth running of  the tournament, and this may not be acceptable to all players.

Okay, clarifications are definitely going to be needed here. These are the rulings that I propose (@lordnigel will have the final say on this as the tournament has not yet started):

  • Gobbo items: In stages 1 through 6, any items acquired from Gobbo battles are lost upon that stage's completion, regardless of whether the stage foe is defeated or not. In the final stage, items stack except for invincibility, which shall be good for only one battle/challenge. (Without this rule, anyone who gains invincibility during the final stage could potentially be screwed over as no one would rationally accept a challenge from them.)
  • Final stage: Each pair of players may battle only once. (As currently written player A could challenge player B, and then after the battle, B could challenge A back.) A player should (but is not required to) challenge/attack only one opponent at a time. If a player chooses to engage in multiple challenges simultaneously, then either @lordnigel or myself may have to rule on what their inventory officially is during each of those simultaneous battles.

Other questions for the final stage:

  • How will the standings be determined? Is it 1 point to the winner of a battle, 1 point to both players involved for a draw, highest cumulative point total wins IBT? That is how I would interpret the rule as currently stated.
  • Are item shop purchases void for the final stage? Do items purchased but not used by the end of stage 6 get lost, and if so, can those items be returned for a refund prior to the final stage?

Cool man..thinking per dot point..

Gobbo items: Totally Agree - nice pickup on invincibility etc type items they are only good against one player attack in boss round
Final stage: Agreed - Sweet pickup also, the Boss round is definately tricky for rules. I'd suggest if someone attacks simultaniously then any item they have is used against the earliest attack. If it isnt clear we might need to step in and say the item applied to the attack at the top of the list/first posted.
How will standings be determined: Good point, how would you feel about a simple weighting system, win=2 points, draw=1 point each, lose = 0 points..then at post closure you and I both add up and confirm peoples scores and notify the winner(s)
Are item shop purchase void for the final stage? the short version is bad luck, no refunds! It actually costs me money to send the BTS with each trophy I sent out, I don't mind doing it cause it's not much, but not for doing refunds etc and also the trophy thing does take a little time. I will post a message on the item shop post saying no item purchasing for boss round as a reminder.

Overall this will be another great IBT and we will learn heaps and maybe lock-in even more game play elements for an IBT#5 (if people want one)

What do you think mate, did this provide enough clarity/clear enough to play - ready to rock and see how we go? :)

I think we're good for stages 1-6.

  • I agree completely on the final stage standings -- 2 points for a win, 1 point to both players for a draw, 0 points for a loss. Highest score wins.

  • Item shop being void in final stage (and all inventories lost after stage 6) is now clear -- that's good.

  • To be clear on items in the final stage, you want to have any and all items that a player possesses to be automatically used in the current battle/challenge?

Also, there are several other scenarios I thought of for the final stage that we might want to figure out now...

  • If an attacker uses a mighty blow and misses (or they fail vs. Gobbo after whiffing on a basic attack), does that count as an instant loss for him/her and an automatic win for the defender without the defender needing to respond to the challenge... OR, does it count as a roll of zero and the defender must still respond?

  • If a player has to defend against multiple simultaneous challenges, does that defender have the right to choose the order in which he/she defends, or do they have to be responded to in chronological order? I'm thinking that the defender should be allowed to choose the order so as to minimize the risk of confusion.

  • Complex battle scenario 1: Attacker challenges someone with a basic attack but whiffs and must face Gobbo. If the defender responds and rolls any non-zero value before the attacker resolves Gobbo, is that an automatic win for the defender or must we wait to see the result of the Gobbo battle?

  • Complex battle scenario 2: same as above, except that the attacker fails to resolve Gobbo before the final stage deadline. I would assume that in this specific circumstance the defender would win because they scored something against the attacker's zero. Your thoughts?

Hey Mate - just struggling with life point in IBT#4 at moment. I'm pretty sure we need to just issue 3 per stage and have each stage independent (as in a sec I'm gonna make the stages really hard - and if i recall we wanted people to be able to play on and play in final regardless). if this your recollection, as this has been in my mind..

In final round if I recall I was trying to figure out if It was gonna be a risky/might blow only allowed round. A draw could be both failed to hit? would this solve some issues...and cut down on the scenarios...ELSE

IF Gobbo kills you in dot point one...we could just say, you died in that challenge and instant win to opponent.

I'd agree with all your thoughts on the last 3 dot points - your assumtions all seem fair :)

The simplest solution would be to just declare risky/mighty blows only in the final stage -- a miss counts as a roll of zero, and two equal scores results in a draw. However, this would also eliminate Gobbo and items altogether, and you mentioned that you were hoping to see some Gobbo play in the final stage.

The alternative then (with the chance of Gobbo seeing some action), would be this ruleset that I suggest (most of which we seem to already agree on):

  • Basic and risky attacks are allowed. Higher roll wins; if the rolls are the same the result is a draw.
  • An attacker who loses to Gobbo, or fails to properly resolve a Gobbo challenge, during the final stage, shall automatically lose that challenge; the defender gets credit for a win without having to respond in this case.
  • If someone is being attacked by multiple challengers, he/she may choose the order in which to defend against said challengers.
  • An attacker who misses with a risky/mighty attack is said to have rolled a zero. The defender must still respond with a roll of their own for the challenge to be official. Should the defender lose against [or fail to properly resolve] Gobbo, then the attacker automatically wins the challenge. Twin zeroes results in a draw.
  • A defender should not roll against an attacker who has not yet resolved Gobbo. If for some reason a defender does so, it is already sufficient punishment that the defender's act of ignorance inherently results in them giving up the strategic advantage of information to the attacker.

So, it's your choice... with or without Gobbo?

Just been watching game play, it seems gobbo is causing a little bit of confusion..I think maybe because he didn't make many appearances, still to make it simple for people to know who won in a battle against each other I'm starting to think gobbo might be too much.

Not sure if we went over this? bit tired, but the final is coming up so we have to lock down..If one player attacks another and they accept. Do we say, well you two guys are now done...so the player who defended can't then turn around and challenge that same guy who attacked them...basically they fought and the result was done, the winner got a point and the loser 0, or they both get a point for draw...and thats it eh, they cant fight again?

sorry may need to sleep and think on, another 10 hour shift down

Ok, so Gobbo's out -- simple ruleset, risky attacks only. Misses count as zero. Higher roll wins battle and 2 points in the standings. Ties are 1 point for each player. Highest point total in the standings at the end wins IBT.

We did discuss the matter of players fighting each other more than once, and I thought we agreed that it would be one-and-done for each pair. (It also makes sense from a logistical standpoint, otherwise the two people able to be online the most could collude by fighting only each other, and as many times as possible, to rack up points and lock everyone else out from the top of the leaderboard.)

Fantastic! also I've had some sleep now - so this helps.
Will start working on the Boss post (last stage now posted) - will put some simple rules in there as above, got a little bit of time to post it..should be interesting. At the end I'll count up the winners, and hand out 1st, 2nd and 3rd (for players who have most points). I was thinking of carrying a little steem over for IBT#5 as may not always have such generous sponsorship and capping prize at 30 steem. 15 for the winner, 10 for second and 5 for third...if people have same score, rather then play off, they split it (spreading the Steem in the IBT way) hehe.

Overly Attached Girlfriend 21032018032748.jpg lmao i had to...

Stupid spelling errors....

Nice! - you'll be up with the latest :)..

Would it be too bad of an idea to maybe incentivize adding you to gina for any players that can, would help with post upkeep for players,

and/or instead of setting for all your posts, maybe. Just the tag IBT or dadotochi... You would just have to be sure to tag all posts with it.

Incentive could be a Trophy Token... For first time gina/ibt followers. If you would like i could make a post detailing the process, and keep track of the incentives.

Screen shot of their gina ..set with either of the aforementioned ibt/you notify on, be simple verify option.

Hey sounds like it's worth a go...heaps of people help with IBT, thanks for your support as well!

I've set the tag to IBT :) hopefully this helps people a little?

...At this point though can't incentivize with trophy tokens as they are used for many contest for great content, but will think on your idea some more :)
