RE: Steemit Super Bowl Squares - Official NFL Super Bowl Contest

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

Sorry to be the breaker of bad news, boys (and girls), but this format has a couple fatal flaws.

First and foremost, in a 10X10 grid game, players buy squares WITHOUT knowing the numbers that will randomly be assigned to them.

If "squares" are purchased willy-nilly, the "randomness" of who gets them is always going to be questioned. Imagine being the person who bought 10 squares and got stuck with 8s, 2s and 1s all over the place...

What you do is allow the people who have paid to select squares by coordinates (i.e. xy Cartesian coordinate plane). For example, "Patriots C, Eagles J)...this would equate to the square sitting the third to the right, at the very top - the highest square that is third to the right. This would assure that people got the squares they wanted, and everyone could see everyone's square picks (hello...blockchain).

When they were all sold out, then the runner of the contest could shoot a live video with 0-9 written down and folded up into a hat, so the random number selection could be viewed by all should they not trust the integrity of the contest.

I have no reason not to trust the integrity of the poster of this, but I will say that there will be a lot of people complaining that their numbers suck and Joe Blow got all the good numbers.

I hope everyone sees this because the contest might not fill up due to the fact that many people who like this particular contest don't exactly like the lack of transparency. Consider revising by allowing those who paid to select their squares first, then let everyone else jump on board. When they all fill up, record the number draw. It will probably get more money for sharing as a second post. ;)

Understandable about the randomness, but honestly if you are worried about the "randomness" of the game then feel free to not play. This is purely for fun and if you think that I would risk my reputation for something like this then you are sorely mistaken. Not only will the squares be randomly assigned, the order of the numbers for the Patriots and Eagles will be randomly ordered from this website: https://draftkit.com/assets/pages/free-box-game-number-generator.html

I didn't want anyone to be able to pick because as many people know, this game does have numbers that are statistically "better" than other squares. It wouldn't be fair that someone who simply joined earlier got to pick the best squares.

OK, cool. I wish you luck on the contest, but why would you include the numbers already predesignated in your post? Maybe the picture showing numbers for both teams made it look bad. Plus, there was no mention that a website would be used to sell the squares after the fact. So, I am glad I posted this because it gave you a chance to add clarity where there had been a blind spot. You also stated the squares would be assigned - without mentioning a website, that would mean by the "fantasy football commissioner", and most people that play in these probably have a story or two about those. By the way, people who join early have no advantage at all when the numbers are selected after the grid is full. AGAIN, I said I have "no reason NOT to trust" the integrity of the poster, but it was clear you had probably never done one of these before. I hope for your benefit and for all other players in the contest this is great fun.

I meant no offence, but I fall gracefully on the sword of this game for all of those who didn't understand my original comment came from a good place.

It's all good my friend, my comment wasn't meant as an offense to you and I never felt like you were personally attacking me. I think that we just migrate towards different ends of the optimist-pessimist spectrum in that I like to think that most people will act in good conscience as opposed to trying to scam people. Could that be to my detriment? Certainly, but I know it will work out for me and I am fine if it doesn't. I can see where you're coming from and I understand it was from a genuine place of helping others so we're all good my man. Would love it if you joined too!

"...Via random number generator." OK, there it is, my bad. But for sake of transparency, it is always a good thing to source these things up front.

Dude, @jp17 they do these squares at every bar and office in the country. The super bowl is one game that could end up on any score, I have been following @brandonp since I have been on steemit and will personally say this is one of the most innovative contest on the site. The good news, it is totally voluntary, no disrespect, you can choose to play or not to play. I defy anyone to accurately predict the score, even if you could pick your own numbers.

dude its a fun contest that allows us to have a fun bet on the Super Bowl outcomes of each quarter. It cost 1SBD to play. Its all about the community and having a good time with others at it. If this was a gambling site it would be a different story. @brandonp is doing this to let us have a little fun with the game. He's not trying to scam people so Joe Blo can win 20 SBD... I think his wallet balance also says otherwise..
