Kleros Dispute Resolution

What Is Kleros?

Kleros is a Dapp built on the Ethereum blockchain to settle disputes. How simple. In a world where smart contracts are becoming a norm, Kleros couldn't have come at a better time. Everyone will have a need for Kleros at a point in their lives, whether big corporations with board of directors, or a small shop owned by a single entrepreneur.

What Kleros Offers.

Current dispute resolution around the world is slow, expensive and very unreliable. I don't know where you come from but in my part of the world, There are people in prison on remand, waiting for a judge to call their case and to determine whether thy are guilty or not. That is not the system where a small business owner who wants a matter settled in the shortest possible time can afford to go.

Kleros connects users with disputes with jurors who can settle them fairly. It uses blockchain technology and crowd-sourced jurors to mediate disputes in a fast, affordable and secure matter. Crowdsourcing means there are a lot of jurors to choose from, and blockchain ensures that Kleros is choosing the best the world has to offer.

How Kleros Works

  • Contract: Kleros users can create a smart contract with Klerosas the referee in case of a dispute. Contract parties can choose the number of jurors and the type of sub-court that will rule their case.

  • Disputes: All case related information is sent to Kleros. Kleros ensures this information is kept private by implementing asymmetric encryption methods.

  • Selection: A council is picked from the many jurors to assess evidence and cast their votes. The selection will be done randomly. New appeals have twice the number of jurors who dealt with the initial case plus an additional juror.

  • Enforcement: Once final judgement is given, it is enforced. Jurors are paid when decisions are finalized by Kleros.

Use- Cases

Case 1:

Kofi needs a website developer to design a website for his gymnasium. He goes online looking for web developers. He finds Kwame, a web developer who says he has a lot of experience in web development. Kofi thinks Kwame might be able to help him. The only problem Kofi has is that, Kwame lives in Accra and he lives in Sunyani. He is new to freelancing on the internet so scared to trust Kwame with his money.

Kwame is demanding a 25% deposit fee before he starts. Kofi is worried and tells Kwasi. Kwasi introduces Kleros to Kofi and now, Kofi is a happy man. He trusts Kwasi, so he knows he can trust Kleros. He talks to Kwame about Kleros and they both agree. A month later, Kwame has a great flourishing website that his bring more customers to him, thanks to Kwame and Kleros.

Case 2:
Akos has a big bakery here in Accra. She has invested all her money in the shop, so has to hire cars to convey the pastries in and around Accra. Ama approaches Akos to offer her services as an online courier operator to convey the bread to customers on behalf of Ama. When customers make orders online, Ama will deliver on to them .

Some months later, several of Ama's vehicles break down, and she isn't able to deliver bread. Ama demands to be paid in full for the month, even though she didn't work the entire month. Akos says her sales declined because she sold less that particular month. Ama takes the matter to court and it has been pending since. Akos is served a closure notice to close the shop until the court case is settled.

Without a Kleros agreement, both parties are left out of job.
