Needling Ned (150-word Flash Fiction; Entry for DHS 5SBD Contest) by @eyedreemit
“It’s all part of the procedure. They’ll sail in, navigate the artery, and then reel him into the trap.” Gail tried her best to sound matter-of-fact.
“Yeah, but won’t it hurt?” Annika, a self-proclaimed middle-aged big sissy, made no attempt to hide her increasing trepidation.
“He has no business being there! It’ll all be over in no-time and then the entire, you know, landscape will return to its blemish-free state.”
Mindlessly Annika rubbed her neck with her thin fingers as if they possessed magical powers to make the source of her anxiety disappear.
Gail’s expression was not unkind so much as assertive. If the voyage was canceled and he was allowed to stay, not only would Annika’s anxiety continue, but the local environmental effects could become immediately catastrophic.
Annika’s eyes closed.
“Land ho! Ned the Thyroid Nodule located. Prepare for aspiration biopsy,” breathed Captain Doc Harris through his MedVR headset.
Mesmerizing photograph! Well done.
Glad to see this posted. Neat - that you went all futuristic scifi with this. Awesome job.
