RE: STACH Short Story Contest #12: 199 words-10SBD prize pool!
IF ONLY SHE HAD KNOWN
Success was just a facade.Deep down inside her successful life was her un-told pain, burning so deep, choking her existence, threatening to stiffle her very being like a hydra-headed monster. It was a pain orchestrated by her reckless past, two subsequent abortions in the days of her youth which now returns to haunt her, taunt her, and flaunt her mistakes in her face.
She had been so young, so beautiful and so adventurous. Thirty years later, all she had left of her 25 years of un-fruitful marriage was hopeless forlorness. For a greater part of these years, she had been disgraced and de-humanized for her inability to reproduce.
And today, she stands looking at her albatross, with her marriage on the brink of total collapse, she had lost the will to live.
She watched in helplessness and remembered.......'You have very slim chances of pro-creating if you go on with this abortion, please keep this one' The Doctor's plea reverberated from her past............And tears rolled down un-controllably.
There was no way she was going to loose her dignity and respectability by having a child un-wed, at 19. ..........And more tears tumbled freely.
Wow, I could almost feel her pain
