My interesting quote for this week:

"Data formerly was used as a tool to deepen the relationship with the customer; now it is used as a weapon." - Jean Scott

This quote was attributed to how casinos have evolved in the last few years with respect to determining what offers to send to which gamblers. It used to be that one's previous activity determined the size of their offers, but now casinos are instead trying to tailor offers to future expectations.

The thing is, that quote could easily apply to many business-consumer relationships. After all, what is the purpose of all the junk mail you get in your mailbox, if not for businesses trying to entice you to visit their stores and make a purchase with some special offer or sale?
