I had a childhood which was not so rosy.

We had a househelp who was terrifying and was domestically violent. She beat me a lot, for different reasons, some of which were just childish tendencies.

So any time my parents were going out, I knew I was in trouble, and would be spotting an injury or another. Just thinking of those days leaves me sad.

But something good came out from it... I read some books. She used to give me her school books to read and summarize to her. I think it played a role in my career as a writer.
