Flash Writing Contest- Global Warning
A Global Warning
The ice mocked the humans as they proceeded to the statue of the Prophecy. It slipped and slowed them down, the biting cold hitting them in the face, but they had no choice. They must keep going for their children to one day play in the sun and not pay for their sins. The emptiness and vastness of the snow which covered everything that man had held dear, showed nature's wrath. To all the carbon emissions, the greenhouse gases, the attempts at her destruction, humans could not understand that she would take vengeance.
Now, facing nature's wrath, they had come to the prophecy as their last hope. The statue of hopelessness and defeat loomed ahead, of a human saddened and trying to kill nature but frozen in time. Nature sure had a wry sense of humour.
The leader of men reached the Prophecy, here was their last hope.
this was a thoroughly thought provoking read, @diebitch. A reality not all outside of possibility if we continue on our current course, making it all that much more interesting.
seems to speak to an older, more powerful 'mother nature' entity as well - watching, waiting -your phrasing and the space between your words creates an ominously looming atmosphere that feels omnipresent through this one. A price to pay for the hubris of man?
Great job working the prompt imagery into your closing, i appreciated its metaphoric presence. and that last line, a possible telling of more to come, or the end. love it.
thank you for sharing.
I felt that rather than the usual mythical route, why not go for something real. Thanks for your feedback.
Wow! Did you also make the image that goes so well with the story? Fabulous!
That was a prompt by the contest, it's lovely right?
It really is! You NAILED it. Good luck in the contest.
