NOTE: All images and screenshots are part of the public press kit available at the Steam Store page

The universe of Endless is one that ties the Endless Legend (Fantasy) and the Endless Space (Sci-fi) games neatly into a coherent narrative. This Rogue-like Dungeon Defense game is a pixel art game set in the same universe. It is a great little take on the Roguelike genre, but it is quite hard to describe, so I'm going to quote some of the information from the Steam page. I played it for a while and liked it, it wasn't my favourite game but it was an enjoyable game to play on the go!

Competition rules

  1. Prize is a Steam key via Humble Bundle gift link.
  2. Entry is by comment (upvote is not mandatory but helps me out, resteem is not necessary, but highly appreciated!), have a chat about why you want this game out just about anything!
  3. Winner is at my discretion (at post payout).

Trailer

Game description

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.

In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.

Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

REVIEWS

“There’s nothing to rank alongside it. Influences and borrowings be damned – it stands alone and is as brilliantly designed, challenging and cunning a package of ideas and aesthetic choices as anything I’ve seen this year.”
Wot I Think – Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of its pixels: no individual element of Dungeon of the Endless is especially complicated, but together they form a fiendish and unforgiving challenge. If you’re willing to take that on then it makes it more than worthwhile, borrowing from several genres to create something that feels unique - as well as bursting with personality and smart choices.”
8.1/10 – IGN

“From its setting to its design and aesthetic, Dungeon of the Endless feels like a game built for me. It’s tough and unforgiving, but it’s also fair. Despite all the deaths I spent climbing through the dungeon’s floors, I slowly mastered the game. That’s a testament to the roguelike genre, and it’s why I like tangling with it so much.”
4.5/5 – Game Revolution

Last week's winner

I had a great chat with @dreemsteem about her design idea for a new game (on Discord). Unfortunately, I can't really share too many details as it is her ideas to share, but it seems like an interesting take on providing tools that help with the child/parent dynamic. Great ideas, but now looking to develop it further!

Let me know in the comments how it is best to get you the key. I am on Discord and Steemit.chat, in various servers on Discord.

I would love to play this game. I like retro games. Not much of a "must have the new blockbuster title" guy. I still play Age of Empires 2...

Some of the retro games have the best gameplay, and in the for a game you want gameplay over graphics! Although that said, if it has both, I wouldn't turn it down!

Nothing wrong with Age of Empires 2! I feel like games today focus too much on the graphics and not enough on gameplay and the story... that's one thing the retro games definitely had to spend more time on because every pixel and MB is precious :D

I agree, Age of empires 2 was an amazing game. Red Alert command and conquer was good also, when I was in high school we used to go home and play both of them against each other, from our own homes... And we thought that was incredible....
How times have changed. My kids didn't believe me when I told them my first Gameboy didn't have colours. Yet they still love tetris lol!

Red alert was amazing! I remember playing it so much at university. I have command and conquer 4 on my computer, but I haven't opened it yet. Nostalgia for the fmv cut scenes!

Did you ever seen the documentary "Ecstasy of Order"? http://watch.ecstasyoforder.com/

Z was my favourite RTS game of all time actually. It was way ahead of every other game around its time in terms of game play and unpredictability - then they decided to focus on the graphics instead...
