My entry to @midlet's Tell My Story contest - Desert camp nev-7 generator strugglessteemCreated with Sketch.

This story takes us to the far outback desert camp nev-7. A group of scientist and biologist stay here to study the desert for its mysterious vegetation. Despite being at in the desert there are many plants and trees growing here with some lifeforms living there too. They want to find out what's behind this so that they could try to replicate it and create new life in parts of the world where nothing grows anymore.

Inside the camp they built a garden to run tests with samples they took from the desert soil. The garden, sleeping rooms and storage room are all provided from fresh air flow by the generator in a separate room. It also prevent sand from coming into the air vents. As wind can sometimes carry a lot of sand around.

The past evening was long and tiresome for everyone though as the generator started to malfunction just as dusk was setting in. One night without cold, fresh airflow wouldn't do any harm. But when a lot of sand comes in that would be a disaster. With the help of a spare lamp everyone gathered supplies and with some cloth they blocked off the air vents. Then they picked up some planks and cloth to build a small protection part in front of the opening outside to prevent the sand coming in. Quite some sand managed to get into the generator room and a bit in the other rooms.

Once that had been taken care off they gathered supplies to fix the generator. Wilhelm would take it upon him to fix the generator during the night. After everyone went to sleep Wilhelm took the lamp with him and went into the generator room. He tried to identify the possibly causes for the generator to fail, which was no easy task. Eventually he did find the faulty parts. For one of them there were no spare parts right now, so he had to improvise for a solution. He kept working all night to get it done.

The sun started coming in through the glass roof, revealing the sweat drops on Wilhelms face from working hard. Jelena woke up and came to check on Wilhelm to see if all was going well. He was glad to have some company, not only because he had been working all night, but he was also close to finishing and could use someone to help him turn the generator back on to see if it works. Now was the moment of truth. Jelena pulled the lever while Wilhelm was still sitting on top of the generator. To their relief it turned on again!

After the others started to wake up they opened the barricade outside again to let fresh air flow back in and then removed the cloth from the air vents that had captured the remaining sand from the air vents thanks to the fresh air flow. Then they cleaned up the sand inside and went back their research while keeping quiet for the hero of the night, Wilhelm, to get some well deserved rest.
