HEROES THAT KEEP THE FLAME BURNING FOR AFRICA My Entry For The Contest Hosted By @africaunchained
As Africans, it's been noticed that we always find it easy to adapt and admit things, even when it hurts us so bad, but why? We never can tell, it could be that, it's just our nature that we find it so easy to admit to those thing which even contributed to the hardship we are going through now, but the bitter truth is just that, even when many admits and keep quiet, the real Africans don't keep shut!
For as long as I can remember, there is this feeling of inferiority in Africans. Maybe it's because we were colonised and taught most of the things we know, devaluing our cultures.
But as they say
You can't keep 10 people subdued for 10 years without at least 1 rebelling
Going through Africa's history, you find out that there are many people that have lifted this country from its knees one way or the other. I would like to mention a few.
First on the list is Wangari Maathia who is from Kenya and an environmentalist. And she once said:
African women in general need to know that it’s OK for them to be the way they are – to see the way they are as strength, and to be liberated from fear and silence.
-Wangari Maathia
Her major battle was her fight for women's liberation. And she was the first woman to earn a doctoral degree in east and west Africa.
Second on the list is Chinua Achebe Who is a novelist. He tackeled colonialism and slavery through his novels. I would recommend his best novel "Things fall apart".
There are also many of them that are keeping the flame burning. The likes of
- Kofi annan
- Nelson mandela
- Desmond tutu
These people have done their part, don't let us stop the trend. Raise your voice to be heard. Even though we've gained independence, we are yet to be freed. So scream like you are freed and shout for victory.
