The most important feature most websites give us

Is the ability to ignore content or people that we dislike.

A few minutes ago I was on Medium trying to get an idea for an article and I noticed that for some reason I suddenly started receiving recommendations from the website about articles written by feminists, men hating articles, and all kind of similar things.

It's really easy to get upset by such a thing. Why would I get such recommendations when I kinda despise those topics? I do not care even a little bit about men hating articles, about how men are evil or about that stupid ad Gillette made. I also don't care about feminists trying to get more and more privileges with zero responsibilities.

Yet, for some reason, Medium decided it's a good idea to recommend me something like that, even though I do not read such articles. When that happened I asked myself "what should I do?"

Maybe writing an article about the situation could attract some attention. Maybe ranting about it on Twitter or any other social media may make people notice this "problem". It will surely get people to notice me, since all my options would create drama, and people love drama.

But there's one thing that I could've done, one that I already did, and that's taking advantage of a feature a lot of people don't use, a feature that is available on almost all websites out there, one that would help more people get away from drama and shitty content - the ignore/block feature.

That feature is on Facebook, Twitter, Medium, Steemit, and most websites or social networks. You have the option to ignore either content or people who annoy you. Thing is, most people use it. Most people want to be annoyed by content or people, because they enjoy drama.

And if you enjoy drama, then you sometimes enjoy useless confrontation that usually leads to wasted time. Instead of spending minutes or sometimes even hours arguing with someone over some belief they have or some belief you have isn't gonna help you with anything. You'll just waste your time.

What you can do instead, is realize that stupid people are and will always be, everywhere. They are on TV, on the Internet, on social media, on books and magazines, newspapers, and so on. There's no way you can completely get away from stupid people.

What you can do instead, is ignore them. Don't pay attention to what they say. If they annoy you on Twitter, block them. If they annoy you on Medium with their articles, block them or block their articles. If they annoy you on Steemit, block them.

It's that simple. Don't waste your time arguing whether feminism is good or bad, whether men are evil or not, whether social media is bad for people or whether porn on Tumblr is bad or good. If you can start a civilized conversation about one of those topics with a person who doesn't consider you stupid for thinking in a different way, then sure.

But that doesn't mean you should waste your time paying attention to drama, believing whatever people say and complaining that there are too many stupid people out there.

Block them, ignore them and move on with your life. That's why those features were invented and implemented in those websites/apps, and you should use them.

I fully agree. No point in dancing on a floor you dislike for longer than necessary (i.e. longer than recognizing it's not your thing).
It's so easy to get sucked into BS narratives and I believe the power structure counts on it. Weapons of mass distraction & divide and conquer because we start to invest our own energy.
