Price comparing while waiting for the house

in #construction9 years ago (edited)

We are still waiting for our house, the ground is too soft for the house to be placed. So the new day is Monday as in the United States we are about to celebrate Thanksgiving, meaning pretty much everyone in the construction industry that is in a Union has a 4 day weekend.

So that leaves us with idle time on our hands. To do some window shopping and figure out what kind of furniture we want to get. A few years ago we moved into a house with bedrooms so small it couldn't fit our bed frame into our room. So we stored it down in the basement. Bad mistake as the sump pump failed and ruined the bed frame. We haven't have a head or foot board since. It is one of my must haves. But I am cheap. I don't want to spend $1000 for a bed frame.

We decided what style we wanted about a month or so ago. I been price comparing and going and looking at the stores here and there to check quality too. I don't want particle board crap, it doesn't have to be thick pieces of wood but I want the bed frame to be made of wood. This bed fit the bill for what I am looking for.

The first store we saw this bed at wanted $799 for just the head and foot boards the rails was another $200. I was like nope I am not doing it. So I started searching. Found it at American Freight for $299 not bad a lot better than the first place. But I got to thinking I bet I can find it cheaper. And I did, The Room Place sells this bed for $198 (rails included) and so does Ashley Home Store (at least the one near us I know zip codes can change the price.) But today we went into a local shop we bought our old furniture from and they have the same bed. Their cash price $259 when they found out I could get it for $198 they offered it to me for $188. I am a happy lady to find it at the price I am more comfortable with.

But what I am really excited about is the new sofa we found. I can not believe the deal we got on it. I have seen this sofa at a few places and they were asking $1500 or more for it. The same place we found the price we wanted on the bed is the place we found this beautiful sofa for under $600. I wasn't even considering a design like this at first because I knew it was out of budget, but we found it in budget. And no that is not leather though it looks like it, the material is really soft.

My night stands to match the bed I am going to order them through Ashley Home Store as I don't like the price everyone else wants to charge me for them. There is one item left to find and that is a new dining set. We have had the one we have for years and it has seen it better days. We think we know where we might buy it from but we have one more place to check before we make a purchase.

Trying to figure this out is keeping me from stressing over that once again things are not done when we were told they would be done. At least my contractors are doing what they are suppose to do. Tomorrow we get a rock delivery for our driveway. And Friday the tanks for the septic system will be installed. I am really hoping the house will be set on Monday, and finished out on Tuesday like we are being told, because I am ready to move. I been ready for that.

Sometimes things are just out of any ones control, planning items to place in your home is a great way to refocus on what will be important in a few weeks.
A home.

I was told today that is only takes the crew a day to brings the halves together and for them to button everything up, so I am hoping sometime next week (unless the ground is still too soft..That crew is suppose to be there on Tuesday

Tell me about the house..

it is a modular 3 bedroom 2 bath nothing huge or fancy. Here is the floor plan.

Nice size! What state do you live?

I am more excited about the land we bought than I am about the house. It is a beautiful 1.53 acre lot with about 1/4 of an acre of woods that back into woods that back into a nature preserve to the north and a state park to the East. I will be able to hike through my woods to either place. (I go to both frequently as it is.)

Oh That sounds awesome!

I am also looking forward to getting away from this neighborhood and he guy who lives behind us. Last year he decided to get a dog that lives 24/7 in a kennel and when night falls it barks till the sun comes up. It is disturbing my sleep. I was getting 6-8 hours of sleep now I am getting 3-4 if I am lucky.

That sounds really exciting walking in your own woods. Do you have any wild life in those parts.

Yes we do. We have already seen deer, rabbits, raccoons, and the neighbors say coyotes are out there too. There are a ton of other creatures

I don't know if you have any ReStore shops nearby, but it's worth checking. They're affiliated with Habitat for Humanity and sometimes have some great pieces for awesome prices!

Love the bed and way to go getting the dream sofa! Have fun finding the rest of items!

yes we have a few around here, so far I haven't found any good pieces here but I go back every few days to see what is new.
