from Handmade to Robotics to AI (part2)

in #construction7 years ago (edited)

Amsterdam (my home town) is know for its the brick canal houses, the 100s kilometers of canals and its many bridges. It sometimes is referred to as the Venice of North/West Europe.

With the 3D printing technology getting mainstreams (3D printing was already invented and used in the industry more than 40 years ago and is referred to as additive manufacturing), many new and existing companies are researching how to apply 3D printing technology. From printing small parts (as BMW does already for years for its cars), to printing big things such as bodies of racing cars and now even buildings).

3D printing is yet another technology contributing to the shift from making and building things with hands to fully automated (robotics) and at some point in time the ability the do its jobs without any human involved at any point in time (AI).

In Amsterdam, a couple of years ago a project started to build a canal house solely with 3D printing technology. This is an interesting step further to what the market already can do today (eg printing sandstone houses using sand, sea water and some small amount of chemical, or printing mobile container type housing). If your are interested, more information about the project can be found here: http://3dprintcanalhouse.com/.
