Just My Observations For The Day

Just how and why

Don't you sometimes just wonder why people do unsafe things. Things like putting heavy and expensive equipment in an elevated position on a windy day?

Why would you want to cross the planks to get to the structure. That is a 4-5m deep excavation and it is not secured anywhere.

Unsafe scaffold on sites are another major problem. Employees will climb up the side of the scaffold like nothing is wrong and work on it without even blinking.

Sometimes I wonder if the employers or employees ever wonder about the consequences, or are they just rushing along to get the job done. I understand their problem to a certain extent, all the jobs in the construction industry is done on a tender basis. Whoever is the cheapest gets the job and unfortunately Health and Safety is the first thing that is cut from the budget.

There is a change coming to the industry, Health and Safety will someday be regarded as important as it should be. The trick will be to embrace it before you get left behind.

I was under the impression that health and safety was part of the tendering process especially for big constructions jobs.

I do hope the change you are hinting at comes soon. But until that day safety is still the responsibility of the employee and employer. Even the client can play a role here by not allowing unsafe conditions on their property.

It is part of the tendering process, which makes it even worse. The contractors try and make their price more appealing buy having the lowest tendering price. One of the easiest ways to do that is to put a small amount for safety and PPE.

Employers should deem it fit to compel employees to always put on PPE. Safety shouldn't be compromised, but unfortunately most employees perceive PPE as a distraction & would prefer working on site without it. It's a serious issue...

Love the construction pictures. I'm not a fan of construction though but love the fact that you talk about safety. That's important to anyone. Nice content.

Thanks, sometimes there can be some interesting pictures hidden in the chaos.

This is such a unsafe way to work, I am really astounded. Nice pictures @chr7is, really enjoying your blog.

Thanks, unfortunately this is something I see on a daily basis.

Why would someone even feel the need to put a cement mixer on top of a container?
What use does it have up there?
