Cicada 3301: The Creation of Bitcoin.

For this story I'm going to need you to stretch your imagination with me,

lets start by filling you in on who Cicada 3301 is. ..

Cicada 3301 is a name given to an enigmatic organisation that on six occasions has posted a set of complex puzzles and alternate reality games to possibly recruit code-breakers from the public. The first internet puzzle started on January 4, 2012, and ran for approximately one month. A second round began one year later on January 4, 2013, and a third round following the confirmation of a fresh clue posted on Twitter on January 4, 2014.The stated intent was to recruit "intelligent individuals" by presenting a series of puzzles which were to be solved, each in order, to find the next. No new puzzles were published on January 4, 2015. However, a new puzzle was posted on Twitter on January 5, 2016. In April 2017 another PGP signed message was found: Beware false paths. Always verify PGP signature from 7A35090F. Message explicitly denies the validity of any unsigned puzzle, as recently as April 2017.

Now for context I'm going go into more detail about what Cicada 3301 stands for, first lets discuss the name, what does the name stand for, from what I can gather this organisation was obviously naming themselves after the Cicada insect, most of the information on this insect can be found on wikipedia (ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicada)

What really stands out to me in the Wikipedia link is the following:

The cicadas are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea
Most cicadas are cryptic, singing at night to avoid predators.
The periodic cicadas spend most of their lives as underground nymphs, emerging only after 13 or 17 years, which may reduce losses by starving their predators and eventually emerging in huge numbers that overwhelm and satiate any remaining predators.

I haven't really found much on the 3301 part of their name but I've read the following comment on quora which made the most sense.

3301 is the 464th prime, perhaps it has some other unusual properties too

Now lets look at their values as an organisation, what do we know of their intentions, this is all part of the picture I'm trying to build for you guys:

Some have claimed that Cicada 3301 is a secret society with the goal of improving cryptography, privacy and anonymity.

Lets do a simple 4 question Q&A on what we already know about Bitcoin and Blockchain.

Who invented Bitcoin? Satoshi Nakamoto

Is this a real person? No It's an internet alias of an open source developer who has yet to come forward.

What were his intentions? Unknown at this point, but we do know he is rich holding around 1 million bitcoin somewhere.

What are the key benefits to using Bitcoin and Blockchain? cryptography, privacy and anonymity, a community driven commodity which can be used to exchange for products and services.

Nakamoto claimed that work on the writing of the code began in 2007. The inventor of bitcoin knew that due to its nature the core design would have to be able to support a broad range of transaction types. The implemented solution enabled specialised codes and data fields from the start through the use of a predicative script.

So if Nakamoto knew what this technology was capable of and lets be real here: the fact that Nakamoto was an internet alias means he could have been the shared forum logon name for a group of highly intelligent Individuals on a collaborated effort to change our current greed driven monetary based society, then it wouldn't be too far off to think that this organisation came up with an ingenious way to recruit like minded individuals on the open web and take this technology further.

We might never know who Cicada 3301 is, and if they every had anything to do with the creation of cryptocurrencies or not but you have to admit that it does make you think...

We are at the verge of a paradigm shift in the way we fuel innovation, the new de-centralised business model is going to focus on quality, transparency and at the same time in a weird way privacy. The world we living in is changing so fast and we are lucky enough to live at the forefront of it all. I believe cryptocurrencies are the first step to a new beginning and a new society and if it was Cicada 3301 behind it all then Thank you.

In a world where 1% of the population holds 99% of the worlds wealth In some strange way aren't we all living underground as numphs, and is blockchain and cryptocurrency our way of emerging in huge numbers that overwhelm and satiate our predators. I hope you are paying attention.
