Future of the GOP (A Conservatarian viewpoint)

in #conservatarian8 years ago (edited)

If you are a conservative, libertarian (small l), or independent; you are probably wondering what will happen to the Republican Party after the General Election. I am a political junkie who believes that the GOP is at a crossroads. The party may stay alive and become forever secondary to the Democrat Party. The party may atrophy and have a large following who consider themselves the "GOP in Exile". And the third option, is that those who may have voted for the GOP in the past will simply leave and find a new political home.
The surprising aspect of all this is that it is not dependent on Donald Trump either winning or losing the Presidency. The GOP has been in a self destruct mode for decades. It has not clearly differentiated itself from the Democrat Party. Since regaining control of the House of Representatives in 2008 and then the Senate in 2012, the Republican Party has basically given the progressive Democrats in the Executive branch and the Legislative branch everything they wanted. If you were looking to vote for a party that was going to reverse the progressive agenda, well, surprise, you wasted your vote by backing the Republican. The electorate is many things, but totally stupid is not one of them. And with the nomination of Donald Trump as their presidential candidate, that was the icing on the cake. Here is a man who is not a conservative, is not for limited government, is not for free markets, is not for supporting all of our inalienable rights as outlined in the Constitution.....basically is whatever the current focus group tells him he should be.
My advice lies on two fronts. You may want to join the "GOP in Exile" movement to be in a good position to help take over the Republican Party from the current crop of incompetent leaders when the collapse occurs. An outstanding group to align yourself with would be the Republican Liberty Caucus. Or if you believe there is no hope for the future of the Republican Party, you may want to go the third party route. Most of my friends who believe the GOP is doomed are currently researching either the Libertarian Party or the Constitution Party.
Whatever you do, I wish you luck and can only dream that our country will once again return to one that embraces limited government, individual rights, and free market economics.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. One big advantage for Steem: you can't be kicked out or censored by some Progressive-stacked "Trust and Safety Committee." That's why expect more Conservatives to join here.
