[Consensus Day 2] Blockstack: Building a New Decentralized Internet

in #consensus7 years ago

Muneeb Ali and Ryan Shea present on Blockstack, a company working to build a decentralized internet using a BNS (Blockchain Naming System) where users have control of their identity, money, and data. Their aim is to reduce the influence of corporations with regards to platform lock-in and provide people with sovereignty over their data. Today they have announced a browser they are working on that is available for developers to tinker with, as well as a "virtual", mineable token that will ride on top of other blockchains. I have no idea what that means because they did not go into detail... it sounds like a meta protocol that will integrate with other existing blockchains agnostically. I wonder if they will only support their own token in their browser, or give the users the choice to use any blockchains through it?

This is what running their "browser" launched (in Chrome, actually):

It seems more like a local web app than a browser at this time

Thanks for sharing stuff from Consensus. It's an interesting convention, for sure, and I'm surprised there isn't more activity about it here on Steem! Upvoted. Z

cool find, thanks @robrigo

Interesting! So much stuff!

Have been following this, really interesting project. Thanks 😆

Is this like having Bluestacks on your Mac? (where you can put Android based apps on your computer)
