Tragic conjoined female twins who had two hearts but shared one body have died in Uzbekistan.

The newborns died three hours apart despite the efforts of doctors to save them at Samarkand region children’s hospital.

It was initially reported as a “two-headed baby”, the twins lived only nine days and died from “respiratory distress and heart failure”.

Doctors at Samarkand region children’s hospital could not save the children.

“I made a mistake,” he said.

The twins’ father was quoted as saying: "I treated her (his wife) well, I did not beat her.

“I did not offend her so why were such children born?"

It comes after the world's oldest conjoined wins - Ronnie and Donnie Gaylon - died aged 68 on July 4.

Record-breakers Ronnie and Donnie passed away in a hospice in their hometown of Dayton, Ohio.

Born on October 28, 1951, Ronnie and Donnie - who are joined at the sternum and the abdomen, with one set of lower digestive organs - spent the first two years of their lives in hospital.
