Build in key logger in HP laptops
A hidden software discovered to log every key-press are found to be "pre-installed" on hundereds of HP models.
This security issue id discovered by Michael Myng, a security researcher.
There are 460 models of HP lap-tops are effected and here you can find the full list of models effected.
HP claimed that this code was a part of Synaptics software for error debugging.
Although this code is deactivated by default it gives the attacker to enable it to record users key presses.

If we dig deeper we will find intel chips with IME an super operating system making everything invalid .... I am not sure whether there is anything like security or privacy exists any longer !
According to Matthew Garret the vulnarabilities on Intel ME:

But Intel did not make any explanation on that.
So I have to agree with Matthew, the Intel ME issue can be etiher a big conspiricy baloon or a giant deal.

Tanenbaum's open letter is quite a read in this context : http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/intel/ .. the licensing aspect seems to be the one/only thing we can be sure of
