Linux is Unix Based Operating system Just Like Windows. It Is Free and Open source. It was First Release on 17 September In 1991 by Free Software Foundation. Its basic component Is Kernal. Since It is released has been used on many platforms.

Advantages:

The Very First Advantage is It is free. You Do not need to buy. It is totally free of cost. Just download and install. The second advantage is it is open source. You can change its functioning if you want to use it for special purposes. But For that, you have knowledge about it. It is more reliable. It can run for a long time you do not restart the system as it usually happens in windows. There are lots of servers that never restarted since they started their functioning. The Biggest advantage is security it is more secure than any other operating system. In fact, this was specially created for security. Hence Its less harmed by Viruses.

NOTE:

It does not mean it is not attacked by viruses. It is attacked. Because its user base is very small that,s why it has fewer viruses.

Disadvantages:

It is not Easy to use. It has a steeper learning curve. You must have good knowledge about computers to use Linux but there are many Linux Flavors that are designed to compete with windows Like Ubuntu and Linux Mint. It has less number of software. some times you can find that application for Linux that you are using over windows. You can not play games like windows. And Further More Troubleshooting is not easy in Linux It is the most difficult work in Linux.It lacks latest hardware support. Hardware support is a big disadvantage.

Uses:

Linux is used on servers, Super computers for more complex calculations. And Used by Developers and for those who want to learn about the working of a computer.

Windows is the meta-family of graphic operating systems developed and sold by Microsoft. Microsoft First Introduced its Operating system on 20 November 1985. At that time it was the most used operating system in the world. Microsoft has Released Several Version Of Windows since its first Release.

Advantages:

The Biggest Advantage is That it is easy to use. Any One can learn it very easily in very short span of time. It has full technical support. Microsoft will Provide You full support if it encounters any problem. It is easy to troubleshoot. Any one easily point out the problem if he has little bit knowledge about computers. It has software almost any kind of software is available for it. It is the good for gaming. Most of the games are developed for windows. It has large hardware support.

Disadvantages:

It is Not Free. You have to pay Microsoft to use Windows with full technical support. Its cost is almost 100$. It is not open sources. Mean you can not make any change in its behavior and functioning. Its functioning is Predefined by the Microsoft. It is not Reliable. After Long Usage of Windows, it loses its performance so it needs to be restarted and it can be crash anytime. It is not secure. You have to buy antivirus for the security of Windows additionally. As it has been seen that Windows users fell prey of Ransomware in the recent past. It has a large number of viruses because of the Large user base. And another disadvantage is that you need buy its software to Like MS Office, Photoshop Etc.

Uses:

It is used by beginners those who want to learn the computer.It is used in Offices. It is used by Gamers and it is also used for the personal uses.

This is a complex question. Neither is Good Nor Bad. It depends on our use that for which purpose we want to use. If you want to play games then you should go for Windows and if you are a developer you should go for Linux. Every thing has its pros and corns.But there are many simple versions of Linux like Ubuntu Linux Mint that can be used for Simple Purposes Like for Watching Videos listening to Audio Music. Nothing is Good or bad it depends on our usage.
