HE SAID: I CREATED YOU

I was listening to K-Love radio this morning while I was driving. The song by Matthew West - Do Something was playing. How many times are we looking for others to DO SOMETHING that we can just as easily do ourselves?

Maybe it’s not that easy. However, if it needs to be done and you are the one to see the need, does it not make sense that you should be the one to “do something”?

DO SOMETHING

I’ve been reading the comments in the chatroom about some of the “good deeds” some of the members of COMPUMATRIX will be doing for others. That inspired me to write this blog post. We have to start acting like a Village again instead of “The Naked City”. (a television show I used to watch in “1962” about New York City)

I will always remember a comment a speaker at a College commencement making: “it takes a village to raise a child”. How true, how true! Do you remember when you did something wrong and by the time you got home, your parents already knew about it!

The police in New York found out from a witness that a woman had been mugged. When they interview her, they asked her why she had not reported the incident. She commented, “She didn’t want to get involved!”

I’m from New York and stories like this are true. My brother in law and sister in law had a window of their van smashed and luggage stolen from their van. The van was parked on a busy street in Brooklyn in the middle of the day while they were attending a wedding. When they reported this, they were basically blamed for leaving luggage in their vehicle in plane sight! (I guess they got involved!!!)

When we complain that someone should do something, remember the words from Matthew West: “I CREATED YOU”.

Years ago in another business I was in, one of my business partner's wife wanted to start a restaurant. She wanted to hire people that could not get a job and use the restaurant as a training center. There would be no cost to eat and the restaurant would cater to homeless people of the community. (this wouldn’t be a typical homeless soup kitchen but a restaurant that people would come in, be seated and order from a menu.)

As I read the comments in the chat from other COMPUMATRIX members, I have reflected on Chris’ wife inspiration several times. My wife and I have volunteered to serve lunch at a homeless shelter. They have recently built an apartment complex next to the shelter as “the next step”. We want to find and help provide the step after this with affordable homes and job assistance.

This would be fulfilling a promise that I made with God some time ago.
