The United Nations (UN) had received 259 complaints of sexual harassment and abuse last year. According to a report submitted by General Secretary Antonio Gutters, it has increased more than 100 since 2017. These complaints were filed from January 1 to December 31, 2018. Of these, UN personnel were involved in 148 cases, while in 111 cases, the employees of the UN affiliates were accused.

According to a report appearing in the UN General Assembly, in such a way 138 such cases were filed in 2017 and 165 complaints were filed in 2016. Many of these cases have not been confirmed and some of the investigations are still going on. On the other hand, such cases have fallen in less than half of UN peacekeeping missions. In 2016, there were 103 complaints, in 2018 only 54 cases were registered.

While presenting the report, Gutters repeated the point of persistence on the policy of not tolerating sexual abuse. To prevent cases of sexual abuse in the UN, Gutters launched a new policy in 2017. Under this, 'Circle of Leadership' was created for the top leadership and governments of the countries. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also a part of it.
