Small acts do make a huge difference - even a smile can be an uplifting thing. You are very kind her on steemit with your positive comments!
Also, the water idea is a good one. I don't know if people in your area have access to drinking water everywhere. But San Diego has a huge homeless population and getting a bottle of water is often better than food.
