The Universal Pipeline of Compassion
Pain may be inevitable, but Buddhists say that suffering is optional. Shinzen Young states it as an equation:
discomfort x resistance = suffering
Why do we suffer even when we do our best to lead good lives?
Human suffering is common coin. It is the token to ride the Universal Pipeline of Compassion. Join all of Nature in paroxysms of pain. We all have it! And so we all know what another being in the throes of misery needs:
Compassion, always compassion.
A little ping going out to a friend in need. A little help from our friends. Lean into it. This pain is a rosetta stone to the language of every beating heart. Pain cries like a baby to be attended. Wrap your arms around the hurt and rock it.
