Community Series #15: Family Time
While talking with my friend Kendall this evening, I heard a new approach to family time.
When Kendall was growing up, his father took a job that was 6 hours from their home. Kendall and his sister were established in their school and their dad did not want to uproot them for the sake of his job.
The solution was that daddy commuted on Sunday, and came home on Friday. Obviously, the weekends became a priority for family time and everyone made it work.
Kendall is a great guy and I am blessed to call him a friend and dear Brother in the Lord. It’s clear that the focus on family created a man of character.
Building the Foundations
The family is the cog that moves a society towards stability or chaos. We have a lot of near chaos scenarios in our world, and a lot of individuals in need of some peaceful times.
In my family, we congregated around sports with our dad and learned to lead and follow based on his example.
For some of my cousins, farming and the 24/6 work ethic it nurtures in a family was how they grew into a solid pillar in the community.
To maintain close relationships with family, a lot of forgiveness has been involved ✌
Forgiveness is essential.
I agree with you, @doitvoluntarily - I believe what you said, says it all.
I still believe I have these wonderful children and grandchildren, because we lead by eample. It is not good to tell a child not to do something, but you do it. To me Christianity and leading by example would make the world a wonderful place.

The Family is the first unit of the society. All the problems that we are facing in the society today is as a result of dysfunctional families.
There is nothing that beats Family time because that is a period of review and discussions. That is when parents can really find out what is truly happening in the lives of their children.

I love that statement. We made a point in our family to discuss the movies we watched or spend time after a meal to talk. There is a great deal of logic and critical thinking that occurs at times like this.
Communication is a key element in maintaining strong family bonds.
Skype etc is good for keeping in touch and never to have phones 'on' when together.
Nothing is that important that it can't wait until after the family have gone home.
Great point. We make items a priority that have generational significance.
